Bordeaux, known as the wine capital of the world and surrounded by the world's most famous vineyards, is also France's second largest Atlantic port. Bordeaux has earned its reputation as one of the gastronomic capitals. Unlike Paris, Bordeaux offers various cuisines and excellent restaurants, providing quality meals at very reasonable prices. To help you navigate Bordeaux's dining scene, I am proud to share my guide on where to eat in Bordeaux on a budget. You can also find a free downloadable map of all the dining places featured in this guide on Google Maps below. 1. Fortiche Club Sandwiches

Address: 8 Rue des Bahutiers, 33000 Bordeaux, France

Located in the center of Bordeaux, Fortiche Club Sandwiches is one of the best affordable dining spots in Bordeaux. Customers can create their own sandwiches by choosing ingredients from the menu. What sets this place apart from an ordinary sandwich shop is the quality of the products, especially their cheeses. Additionally, their cakes, such as apple crumble, stand out in a special way.

Cost? Prices are quite simple; €6.50 for 1 ingredient, €8.50 for 2 ingredients, and €10.50 for 3 ingredients. Add €2 for a drink or dessert or chips.

2. La Tanière

Address: 41 Quai Richelieu, 33000 Bordeaux, France

If you are looking for classic French bistro cuisine at affordable prices in Bordeaux, La Tanière is definitely a place to visit. This cozy restaurant has received high praise from its customers, drawing attention with its duck confit, boeuf bourguignon, and other local delicacies.

3. La Cabane Cent Un – Oyster Restaurant

Address: 7 Rue Rode, 33000 Bordeaux, France

A trip to Bordeaux would not be complete without tasting some oysters, especially with the dry white wines from Entre-deux-Mers or Pessac-Léognan, given its proximity to the Atlantic and the famous Arcachon Bay.

You can buy oysters at every market and open them yourself, or you can order them at one of the many gastronomic restaurants in the bay. My favorite place to taste oysters is La Cabane Cent Un – Oyster Restaurant. Located next to the cathedral, this venue specializes in excellent seafood, as well as oysters - you can order half a dozen oysters for €12 or a dozen for €21.

Blind wine bar

4. Dragon Dore

Address: 9 Rue Paul Louis Lande, 33000 Bordeaux, France

Dragon Doré is a cozy family-run Cambodian restaurant focused on authentic Khmer cuisine. It offers an unlimited buffet for €18 at lunch and €21 at dinner.

5. Brasserie Liber

Address: 127 Rue Georges Bonnac, 33000 Bordeaux, France

Like La Tanière, Brasserie Liber is a great option for those looking for classic French cuisine at good prices. This charming brasserie is just a short walk from the historic city center. The daily menu board offers something for everyone, including excellent seafood options, as well as perfect lamb + pork ribs and duck confit. Prices are quite reasonable, starting at €20 for 2 courses or €24 for 3 courses.

6. Magasin General

Address: 87 Quai des Queyries, 33100 Bordeaux, France

Darwin, a versatile community space, is a must-visit place. It hosts a co-working space, an eco-friendly skate park, great street art, and a grocery store. There is something for everyone here.

We had lunch at the organic restaurants in Magasin General. Main courses cost €12, ranging from delicious salads to stone-baked pizzas and homemade pastas, and the option to add dessert is only €5.

7. Blind Wine Bar

Address: 12 Rue Castelnau d’Auros, 33000 Bordeaux, France

The food and wine scene here is fantastic – we had great meals here. Since Bordeaux is the wine capital, you will drink fantastic wines here. I highly recommend visiting the Blind wine bar. The owners serve tapas-style dishes inspired by their Central/South American roots, and each dish comes with a blind wine tasting - it was quite educational for a wine novice like me.

Oyster tasting Les Halles des Bacalan

8. Visit local markets

Bordeaux is also home to great markets where you can find really fresh, local foods; among them are the Capucins market and the vibrant Les Halles de Bacalan market. (They have great oysters here) My last recommendation is to stop by Magasin General, an organic restaurant where all the ingredients are sourced locally.

9. Try Canelé at La Toque Cuivrée

Address: 41 Pl. Gambetta, 33000 Bordeaux, France

If there’s one thing you must taste in Bordeaux, it’s Canelé; the dough is soft and lightly flavored with vanilla and rum, while the outside is crispy and caramelized. The best place to try this is La Toque Cuivrée.

Where to stay in Bordeaux: Stay at Moxy Bordeaux

Moxy Bordeaux is located in the heart of Bassins à Flot, just steps from Cité du Vin and within walking distance of Bassins des Lumières. Moxy guest rooms offer the perfect combination of style and comfort, where guests can relax and connect. The hotel’s spacious lobby is a great place to socialize, featuring a bar that serves local beers and stone-baked pizzas. Comfortable seating areas, tables for working, and a pantry with snacks and drinks available 24/7 are quite convenient.
